BLOG 5-26-23: Our Words Are Powerful
Our Words Are Powerful
I recently posted the following quote from motivational speaker, Leo Buscaglia on social media. Based on the comments I received, the quote resonated with my readers. The wisdom in the quote supports how powerful our words and behaviors are and that everything matters on some level.
‘Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the small act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around”.
--Leo Buscaglia
LEADERSHIP BEHAVIOR, PRESENCE AND PERFORMANCE
The behaviors Buscaglia outlined have the ability to create and sustain productive relationships. Some of these behaviors are instinctive. Some are learned, such as listening skills, and need to be practiced and executed with intention.
In this time of unprecedented change, managing everyday situations, sensitive issues and awkward behaviors with Leo Buscaglia’s sentiments in mind contributes to smoother and more lasting relationships.
Some practical strategies:
- Focus on the power of small consistent actions to create and sustain big changes, as simple as a handwritten note
- Learn the words that fuel conflict and remove them from your vocabulary
- Learn new listening skills
- Brush up on etiquette, protocol and diplomacy
- Embrace graciousness as a practical leadership, life and workplace skill
