Leadership Lessons - Dancing and Leading

In an earlier post, I shared my adventure and the leadership lessons learned by being on a sky deck more than 1000 feet above the sidewalk in New York City.

How about the adventure of repelling down a skyscraper and dancing as you come down with four other people!!

An aerial dance company, BANDALOOP, combines rock climbing technology, sports, ritual and dance to challenge what is possible. Dressed in scarlet free-flowing costumes, they are exhilarating and breathtaking to watch.

How do you prepare for the dance down the side of a building? What is required of you and your partners? What are the leadership lesson takeaways?

I spoke with one of the dancers and this is what it takes to create their beautiful presentation: trust in yourself, trust in your partners, mental and physical preparation, shared vision and teamwork are the foundations that create a coordinated, creative, safe and enjoyable aerial dance experience.

Collaborative business cultures are created and sustained on similar values.

In many ways, leading an energized, productive, profitable, diverse team requires the ability to embrace adventure, commit to learning new steps and give everyone some grace as they dance along with you.

What dance reminds you of leading a team?
